"The future of India lies in its villages" – Mahatma Gandhi
Gandhiji wanted to rebuild India from the lowest level with the poorest and the weakest. So he gave a call to the people, especially the youth, to go back to villages for village reconstruction. He had visualized self-reliant villages, free from exploitation and fear, as an important part of the decentralized system.
In an effort to transform the rural communities, to bring youngsters from tribal communities together and to channelize their energies in a positive direction to meet complex life challenges, SEESHA in association with Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences (Deemed to be University) conducted a mega Kabbadi event at Karunya University Sports Complex, on October 2nd 2019, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi.
More than 18 teams from tribal communities in and around Karunya Nagar, Coimbatore participated in the event. The winning team was awarded Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran memorial trophy, Rs.10,000/- cash prize and a certificate. The first runner-up was awarded Sis. Angel Dhinakaran memorial trophy, Rs.6,000/- cash prize and certificate and the second runner-up took home - Appa Duraisamy memorial trophy and Rs.3000/- cash prize.
A village cooking contest for women was also organized to encourage the women from communities near Madhuvarayapuram area. The winners took home a best rated 3-burner gas stove, an induction stove and a tawa with lid as first, second and third prizes.
